Meet Chris Whitman!

Chris recently joined CEDARVILLE as part of our Fort Drum project in New York. He has over 10 years of environmental experience. He has expertise in evaluating, inspecting, and reporting on biological and stormwater initiatives. He is responsible for ongoing updates to the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.

When asked about his favorite project, Chris said: “My favorite project was a fish contaminant study done on Fort Drum. While working as an aquatic biologist, one of my projects was to collect 10 largemouth bass and 10 bullhead from each water body on Fort Drum so they could be tested for PCBs, lead, mercury, and other contaminants. Fish were caught in a variety of ways including trap nets, electrofishing, and my favorite, rod and reel sampling! For an entire summer I would boat around the beautiful lakes and rivers of Fort Drum, collecting big fish to take back to the lab for sampling.”

Chris enjoys the outdoors and loves hiking, fishing, and boating. He also enjoys gardening, and tells us, “I'm going to try canning for the first time this year.” In addition to pulling fish out of lakes, Chris heads into the woods to forage for wild edibles including blackberries, blueberries, leeks, and his favorite, morel mushrooms! He still finds time to watch sports, (Go Bills! and Syracuse).

Most importantly, Chris will welcome his first child in November.
