Alexander Drive Basin Retrofit, West Norriton Township, PA
The Alexander Drive Basin is a township-owned basin, located just south of the Alexander Drive and Burnside Avenue intersection in West Norriton Township. The basin is part of the township’s Pollution Reduction Plan (PRP) and the project’s goal was to retrofit the basin in order to meet the minimum credit reduction stated in the PRP.
CEG played a large part in the Alexander Drive Basin Retrofit project and provided Stormwater infiltration Testing and Conceptual Retrofit Design, as well as administration services for the engineering, bid, construction, and grant aspects of the project.
CEG completed the conceptual design for the basin retrofit in order to provide a template for basing the final design and as a platform for source funding. As part of the conceptual design, CEG conducted a site survey to map out existing features, utilities, and boundaries to assist in preliminary engineering calculations as well as serve as a base for the concept. CEG also executed a soil investigation and infiltration testing in accordance to all standards to determine the key features of the soils on-site. Using the collected data, CEG developed a concept plan and narrative, as well as a 3D model of the design.
The final engineering design was created along with a final plan set, construction details, and specifications that entailed altering the landscape to achieve appropriate grading and basin volume, as well as appropriate soil amendments for a basin. The inlet and outlet structures will also be modified and pipes in poor condition will be replaced before planting native vegetation and achieving the required pollution reduction credits.
CEG also prepared bidding documentation, technical and construction specifications, administered the bidding process and consulted with the township for the bid evaluation. Once construction activities begin, CEG will provide review of submittals and payment requests, as well as on-site inspections to ensure proper construction per the approved final design plans.
Funding for the project was awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Watershed Resource Protection Program. CEG provided interim and final grant reporting along with administrative support for the awarded grant.
